Through Our Eyes: Why We Stride
I was diagnosed with a cavernous malformation (brain bleed) the end of March 2025. Several weeks later I was scheduled for surgery. Needless to say this was a very stressful and scary time for my family and friends. Surgery was a success but unfortunately several days later I had swelling in my brain which put me back in the hospital. The swelling caused poor balance, difficulty walking and a loss of fine motor skills on my left side. I was able to come home and have since been working with PT and OT. I am making progress but things that were once simple are now physically and emotionally challenging. Normally running is my way to manage stress. In the meantime I have found strength in the support and love from family and friends cheering me on. Though I’m not running I’m determined to improve and get back out there. Every step is a win. But not everyone has the same story. Many individuals are left with debilitating physical challenges and do not have the option of surgery. We need more research, more support, a cure.
That’s why I’m joining the 30 miles in 30 days challenge, from June 1–30, as part of Strides to Cure CCM. Hoping you will join me as every mile we walk honors the fight so many of us face—every mile raises awareness, fuels research, and reminds families like mine that we are not alone.
If you’re able, please consider joining us or making a donation. Together, we can take steps that lead to something greater—a cure.
